Chapter 1: The Arrival
Hi. Can I take a moment to be serious here? There's a debate raging across the 'net that has divided people. Some claim that their merely being fans of a character and simply dressing up to honor them. Others claim that what their doing is a sick new perversion. Granted, one thing to remember is that the style that those fans are emulating is age old and the most popular form of drawing ever. A number of folks have asked where I stand on the issue, and I feel that this is the best place for me to make it. I'm talking, of course, of Stickies. Stickies, for those that don't know, are fans who dress up as their favorite stick figures. You can see them at conventions and other gatherings. Some are harmless, merely wearing a black unitard with a big white foam head, while others have become quite adept at emulating the original character by adding various prosthesis and options. But as with any sub-culture, there are those that would seek to turn it even darker. Those who fasten large white balloons to their chests and prance salaciously on stage. I've also seen others who have dressed in their Stickie costume in ways children were never meant to see (even if they draw the same thing in the backs of library books). What one does in the comfort of one's own home is one's own business, but what one does in the presence of others is quite another. I feel that we must stop this sick perversion of Stickie fandom before it goes too far. There are other ways to show your appreciation toward the hard work of an artist, choose them. Or just dress up like a furry. because they're hot.
